Facts

Chiropractic is a method of healthcare that helps ease pain and restore movement. Hands-on techniques are used instead of drugs or surgery. One main goal of chiropractic is to keep the body's nerves, bones, and muscles working well together. To accomplish the goal, spine and joint care is the focus of treatment. We use chiropractic to treat a wide range of problems, including back and neck pain, nerve irritation, headaches, and joint disease.

Headaches

Problems in the neck and shoulders often trigger headaches. For instance, the neck or shoulder muscles can tighten or overstretch. Joints and bones can move out of alignment, causing nerves and blood vessels to become irritated. Poor posture and stress from repetitive motion, such as looking down to read or text also cause headaches. With chiropractic care, you can get relief from headaches. You can also learn ways to prevent future headaches.

Whiplash

Upon impact in a traffic accident, your body pushes into the seat. Your neck isolates your head, which delays its reaction while your body quickly reaches the limits of your seat. Then, your body quickly changes directions, moving forward to the limits of your seat belt. Now, your head starts moving backward in the opposite direction. Your head is jerked back and forth beyond normal limits. Everything seems to be happening in slow motion, and you are unable to stop your head from whipping backward and forward.

First, you are surprised, then angry. Then the pain sets in. Don't minimize your pain because your vehicle has sustained little or no damage. Instead, schedule an immediate chiropractic exam. Pain pills will not heal inflamed tendons and ligaments. Muscle relaxers will not heal torn muscles. A cervical collar will not restore a graceful forward spine.

Disc Problems

Your spine is made up of bones (vertebrae) that stack together, and pads (discs) cushion the bones. When discs are damaged, nearby nerves can become irritated, resulting in pain. Common types of disc damage include degenerative disc and bulging discs. Injury and aging can cause these conditions along with repeated strain over time. Chiropractic care can improve the alignment and movement of the spine, decrease pressure on the nerves, and help relieve symptoms.

Sciatica

The sciatic nerve runs from the lower back down into the foot. Sciatica occurs when the nerve is irritated and can result in numbness, tingling pain, and weakness in the lower back and leg. Disc damage or tense muscles in the buttocks along with prolonged sitting and poor posture while lifting or injury can cause sciatica. Chiropractic care can help reduce the pressure on the sciatic nerve, ease pain, and improve movement.

Pregnancy

Regular chiropractic care during pregnancy helps maintain balance, alignment, and flexibility. Many women have reported less morning sickness after therapy. Chiropractic therapy also appears to have a positive effect on the child a mother is carrying. When the baby is comfortable, he or she can assume the optimal birthing position.

Labor and Birth

Mothers who get regular adjustments seem to require less high-tech intervention during labor. Many also report shorter and less traumatic births. With proper nerve supply, well-timed contractions help move the baby through the birth canal more easily.

Post Delivery

Even natural births can stress a baby's spine. Breastfeeding problems can arise if the baby is unable to turn its head fully. Schedule a chiropractic checkup for your newborn as soon as possible. You can relax, knowing we use a light touch to make our adjustments safe and effective for your little one.
